Random Thoughts From the Weekend.

| | Comments (0)

On Sunday I did my first 10 Kilometer walk/hike with my buddy Rowan. Not only was it a fun two hours of solid conversation, walking, and photo taking it was good ole’ fashion exercise. I’m planning on doing some kind of similar excursion every weekend from now on. Be it a 10k walk, a hike, bike ride, or something else new and exciting for me to do.

Even yesterday as I did one of my ever so frequent walks to Sidney with my ipod on shuffle I had fun. One part I remember vividly was the clouds parting to let a little sunshine though on me was “Naked as we came” by Iron & Wine was playing and everything felt perfect.

I’ve always wanted to make a television show. About what I don’t know, but would anyone be interested in seeing videoblogs? Not those cheesy webcam ones, but ones edited well with music and actual film footage.

Maybe I should get D-Rail to enable commenting soon.

I was asked to participate in a art show sometime soon with some of my photographs. I would love for you guys to go to my flickr and tell me the ones you’d like to see on display. Maybe everyone who nominates a few photos will be entered in to win a book of my photographs?

So here is what you do.

1. E-mail me the link(s) of the photos you’d like to see on display.Or Myspace me.

2. I will cut out your name on a piece of paper and put it in my top hat.

3. I will draw for a winner, and snail mail it or hand deliver it if they live in the Greater Victoria area.

Love Ain't Something I Remember

How often do we lay in bed and regret the actions taken earlier in the day, week, or even within your life time? How about after saying something really corny back instead of witty leaving the thoughts to haunt you.

I’ll tell you one thing it’s never the big things that get me it is the little things most of the time. It always catches up with me at any given moment leaving me to wonder what life would be like if I said one thing or did the other.

Well over a year ago I made you out to be the bad person, and I know you were just trying to help me. Ironic as it is I write this article while drinking a glass of wine. Hell I know you were trying to help me, but being my arrogant and asshole self I broke your heart. You know what you were the only thing in my life worth anything at the time and me being drunk almost all the time didn’t help. I assure you she meant nothing to me compared to you. I was so scared, and who wants to get into another relationship after what I had just been through so I pushed you away. For what alcohol and someone I was miserable with. Someone who wasn’t there for me like you had been and someone so detached from my life along with my hours of consciousness. I’m glad we started talking again, and I’m beginning to see why I fell for you before

Why am I telling you this now? Why not?

This is what I’ve laid in bed and regretted for the last year, and I hope you can forgive me someday.

Hate-Mail & Other Meaningful Things

So I’ve decided to post at least on large article a week I haven’t decided which day they will be released on yet, but I guarantee one soon. So I’ve decided to just do a few recap events of what has happened in my last week for everyone along with a few tech details about the site.

I received my first letter of hate-mail last night from the Promotions department at The Zone last night. Now you are probably thinking I got this via e-mail or something, but no it was an actual hand written letter. The letter was served to me by newbie “Q! Roadie“ Chris who was directed not to read it. In this letter it goes in to detail on me not posting enough and to shave my beard off.

Detroit beat Calgary in game one of the playoffs. Dallas beat Vancouver in game two tying the series 1-1.

Yes I do know the Gallery and Links Pages don’t work yet. They are being worked on still I wanted to finish the template and to be able to blog. I also have to learn some new methods of putting pictures in my articles so it isn’t so time consuming and so we don’t have to upload them to the server.

The May 25th fundraising show at Lucky Bar lineup is as follows Italian Edition, Counting Heartbeats, Seven Year Old Poets, Cheers in the Belfry, and Mujeres.

Hot Fuzz was hilarious as predicted.

Kurt Vonnegut one of my favorite authors passed away this week. He was the author of such legendary books as Slaughter House-Five, Hocus Pocus, and Breakfast of Champions.

I received my Porcupine Tree tickets in the mail.

I don’t know if I’ll make this a weekly thing or blog when something eventful happens I’ll make a quick entry. I guess we will have to see.

Beards They Grow On You

I was inspired to write this article a few months ago by Peter Gardner, but everything in my life got super busy. So here we go.

In Victoria there is a little local rock number called The Counting Heartbeats. These guys actually were on the bill at one the first local shows I went to see, but I’ll talk about that later. Despite being an indie* band these guys have quite the cult following and fan base among the teenage girls in Victoria. I am always flabbergasted by how many are at The Counting Heartbeat shows either swarming the band, swarming the merchandise table, dancing away, or making a human pyramid.*

The first time I ever met lead singer of The Counting Heartbeats, Joshua Sparrow was through my good friend Jack just over a year ago. To my surprise even though Joshua’s high status and respect among other bands plus the high status among the young girls he remains humble and down to earth. Joshua to my knowledge has no inflated ego like some other local bands I know and have seen.

The one thing Joshua does well other then rocking it hard is grow a kick ass beard, which brings me to my experiences as his Doppelganger.

It all started just over a year ago when I was out with a now ex-girlfriend and we decided to go catch a local show featuring Italian Edition, The Counting Heartbeats, and The Armchair Cynics. As we walked there we were tailed by a group of girls no older the 15, whispering. Until one of them gained the courage to run up to us and ask me if I was Joshua. At the time I had no idea who Joshua Sparrow was, and nor would I for at least another two hours. So I replied with a no crushing the hopes and dreams of one young girl in her quest to meet a rock star.

Upon arriving at the show I bumped into the bass player of the Armchair Cynics who again asked me if I was Joshua Sparrow. This made me wonder “who the hell is this Joshua Sparrow guy? And why does everyone think we look the same?” Later that evening after seeing The Counting Heartbeats play and Jack introducing me to them I realized why people may think we are one and the same.

We both have beards. Well there is that and we have roughly the same build and such.

Oh did I mention we both have beards?

To this day I have had “I Love You Josh,” yelled at me at least thirty times and asked “Are you Josh?” more times then I can remember. I have also been asked to appear in some girls photos because the thought I was Josh, and I have signed three autographs as Joshua Sparrow.

I just hope one day some one goes up to him and says “Are you Tyson Elder?”

note: That’s independent kids! Meaning not signed to a record label and not the style of music.

note 2: I was once selling merchandise at an Italian Edition show, and I swear to god some girls were doing cheer leading moves in the middle of the building instead of watching the show.

Cheemo!
