Remembering Music.

Calexico

Yesterday I was wandering home post Rifflandia 3 party at Phillips Brewery when I fired up "Carried to Dust" by Calexico.

Lately Calexico has been my go to choice for making me feel better. I think it has something to do with the horns and whole border sound. By border sound I mean an Mexican/American influence to the music. Tex-Mex if you will.

As I walked up the country road back to my place I spent some time remembering how I felt when eeing them play last year at Sasquatch. I was taken back at how great they were. I knew they were good (I had listened to a cd or two before hand) but this was way better than I expected.

I'm sure it has something to do with the venue who can argue with the Gorge as a backdrop, but I think it also had to do with how I was feeling at the time. It is hard to take yourself out of how you are feeling sometimes and I find music is usually how I escape.

I think that is why I made some lasting bonds with the music I heard last year at Sasquatch because of it. Calexico, John Vanderslice, The Avett Brothers, and rekindling my love with Jane's Addiction have all slipped into my high rotation. All I have to do is listen to them and I feel better.

I forgot why I started writing this post but I'm okay with that.

Less than a month.

Sasquatch = Broke.

Holy Fuck!

I did it again. I bought Sasquatch tickets $400 I'll never see again. They haven't even released the line-up yet.

This year I sprung for the premiere camping to be part of the VI Convoy and to not have to deal with the regular folks. The drug dealers and whores next door last year was enough to make me want to eat a bullet.

This will be my 4th year going in the last 5 years. Every year has its ups and downs. Every year (except the first) I've sworn I'm never going back.

2006: Was the first big road trip of my life without family. D-Rail, a stranger (Lindsay), and ex, and an idiot. One of the fondest memories I have of the music festival.

2008: Space Cowboy ditched us on the last night because we were partying to loud. I met some of my comedian heroes (Eugene Mirman, Brian Posehn, Marc Maron)

2009: Returned with D-rail, brought Caity, met up with JB and Joss. Was a tough trip on me but I got to see John Vanderslice.

I can't wait for this year I've been excited for months.

Day 25: Gift.

I’m the type of person who if they have the money will buy what they want right then and there. Hence my fairly large record/cd/dvd collections.

The gift I bought for myself and that I enjoyed the most is something I’ve talked about already on here. That’s Sasquatch. So instead of talking about it again here is a picture of John Vanderslice performing on the Wookie Stage.
